Howard F. Fine, M.D.
Dr. Howard F. Fine joined the Retina-Vitreous Center in 2009. He received his undergraduate degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a masters degree in clinical trials from Duke, and his medical degree with honors from Harvard Medical School. Dr. Fine completed his ophthalmology residency at the Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute, a uveitis research fellowship at the National Eye Institute, and his two-year medical and surgical retina fellowship at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York. Dr. Fine was honored with both the Heed Ophthalmic Fellowship Award and the Ronald G. Michels Retina Fellowship Award. He served as the Medical Director of the Gerstner Clinical Research Center at Columbia University prior to joining RVC.
Dr. Fine is Board Certified in Ophthalmology. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retina Specialists, the Society of Heed Fellows, and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. He is a reviewer for several journals including Ophthalmology, Retina, Archives of Ophthalmology, and American Journal of Ophthalmology. Dr. Fine has published extensively on macular degeneration, vein occlusion, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal surgery. He has several patents pending for retina surgical devices and co-founded a retinal surgical robotics company. Dr. Fine has lectured and operated internationally, including France, Dubai, and India, and has been a principal investigator in several national trials. He serves on the staff of the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ, and Kimball Medical Center in Lakewood, NJ.
