Eric S. Friedman, M.D.

Dr. Eric S. Friedman joined the Retina-Vitreous Center in 1995. He obtained his undergraduate degree from Yale University and his M.D. degree from Brown University School of Medicine. Following a foreign study fellowship at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, Dr. Friedman went on to the Pittsburgh Eye and Ear Institute for his residency in ophthalmology. He then studied vitreoretinal disease and surgery as Chief Fellow at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston.

Dr. Friedman is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is also a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Medical Association, The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, the Vitreous Society, the New Jersey Academy of Ophthalmology, and the New Jersey Retina Society.

Dr. Friedman serves on the staff of the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and St. Peter's Medical Center in New Brunswick, NJ, Kimball Medical Center in Lakewood, NJ, JFK Medical Center in Edison, NJ, and Union Hospital in Union, NJ.

Dr. Friedman has researched, published, and lectured at national meetings on numerous topics in ophthalmology, including diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, toxoplasma retinochoroiditis, and retinal detachment. He has also been a Principal Investigator in the national Complications of Age-Related Macular Degeneration (CAPT) Study, the Miravant Photodynamic Therapy Study, and the Vitrase for Vitreous Hemorrhage Study.
