Jonathan L. Prenner, M.D.
Dr. Jonathan Prenner received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania and his medical doctor degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He was accepted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and served as its president there. He was also president of the student chapter of the American Medical Association at SUNY. Following his internship at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, Dr. Prenner returned to the University of Pennsylvania's Scheie Eye Institute for residency training in ophthalmology, where he was appointed chief resident. Dr. Prenner completed his two-year vitreoretinal fellowship at William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, Michigan, one of the premier retina training programs in the country. At Beaumont, he was awarded the awarded two national honors, the Heed Ophthalmic Fellowship Award and the Ronald G. Michels Retinal Fellowship.
Doctor Prenner joined the Retina Vitreous Center in 2004, and serves an assistant clinical professor in the departments of Pediatrics and Ophthalmology at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.
Dr. Prenner is Board Certified in Ophthalmology. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retina Specialists, the Society of Pediatric Retinal Surgeons, the Society of Heed Fellows, Alpha Omega Alpha, the Association for Research and Vision in Ophthalmology, and is the current President of the New Jersey Retina Society. He serves as a manuscript reviewer for Ophthalmology, the Journal of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Retina, The Journal of Retinal and Vitreous Diseases, and the British Journal of Ophthalmology. He is also the editor of a recurring series in both the Retina Times and the Review of Ophthalmology. He has been elected by his peers for inclusion in Best Doctors in America.
Dr. Prenner is the Principal Investigator for numerous national multi-center clinical trials evaluating new treatments for age-related macular degeneration and other retinal diseases. He has authored more than a dozen publications on vitreoretinal diseases, and routinely presents his scientific research at both national and international meetings. He has recently given invited lectures on retinal research in Italy, Hungary and Brazil. He maintains special interests in retinopathy of prematurity, complicated retinal detachment, diabetic eye disease, and age-related wet macular degeneration.
