RVC doctors have a strong commitment to academic ophthalmology, both in the training of medical students from UMDNJ and in conducting and presenting original research at national and international meeting. The entire group is actively conducting research as part of a host of multicentered clinical trials on new therapeutic approaches to AMD and diabetes.
Recently, Daniel Roth, M.D. presented data on the use of Avastin in AMD and other retinal vascular diseases at both the 2007 AAO and ASRS meetings and at ARVO in 2008. Dan has continued the tradition of promoting medical students, and has had them act as lead authors on those projects.
Jonathan Prenner, M.D. was invited to present at the 2007 AAO Retina subspecialty day, speaking about complications of intravitreal anti-VEGF therapy to an audience of nearly 2500 physicians. He will be presenting original research at the 2008 Club Vit and ASRS meetings, and gave invited lectures this winter in Paris and Hungary.
Matthew Wheatley was selected to act as an expert lecturer for a series on vitreoretinal surgery at the AAO meeting in 2008. He will lead discussions and give advice to other surgeons on complex surgical approaches and techniques.
Stuart Green, M.D. remains the chairman of the department of both the medical school and hospital, and continues to mentor students actively.
